“In comes Clarke, I think it’s Clarke, only I can’t see his head. And he bowls. I’ve lost it. No idea…oh! I think he’s bowled him! Yes! He’s bowled. Oh no, it’s gone for four.” – Chrisopher Martin Jenkins on radio during the WC07 final.

Steve Bucknor, controversy seems to follow the aging ump like a bad smell. Watch the highlights of the SA Bangers series (well yes i actually did) and you’ll need no more convincing. Mohammed Rafique gets a first ball duck LBW to Morne Morkel after he smashed the cover off the ball albeit in a defensive prod. I mean you have all kinds of LBW rite buck? bat pad , pad bat, ball thudding into shoulder, but i think Buck’s outdone himself here.
But to be fair to the man , he did get a fairly tough one right at Mirpur. AB De Villiers got out caught to a ball from Bangers leggie captain Ashraful. Now while that in itself is shocking, the point here is that the ball got to AB on the second bounce. Was that out?
Buck got it rite and as per the book sent AB on his way. AB has a ‘word’ with the umps on his way back, needless to say he was dirty about the decision so was his captain Graeme Smith. AB later said ‘i knew i was out but was just hoping they would say it was not out’!! Strange.
Well just for the record , the match ref didn’t think it was worth his time to visit the SA dressing room.

MSD…Caught in a webbing… February 27, 2008

This excerpt from cricinfo
“Dhoni himself avoided an ICC rap after he was found wearing gloves that weren’t within the regulations. The pair of white ones he sported came with a loop-like webbing that had been reinforced at the edges.
Law 40.2 states that “if the wicketkeeper wears gloves, they shall have no webbing between the fingers except joining index finger and thumb, where webbing may be inserted as a means of support…”
Dhoni said he had obeyed the laws and didn’t want any further controversy. “It was close to the line of ‘if the gloves were legal or illegal’. In the 100 catches I’ve taken only three or four might have been caught in the webbing. Otherwise, the rest I’ve claimed out of my glovework and my skill.”
Arent we missing the point here MS? no one denied that glovework and skill contributed to most of your dismissals.. The point is the gloves might
have been not in line with the regulations….
